The art that comes from the Sertão. In a remote part of the Brazilian state of Sergipe, Cícero Alves dos Santos, or Véio, creates sculptures to be shown at the Cartier Foundation in Paris. By Marina Fuentes. Whoever passes, either by car or on foot, past km 8 of the Engenheiro Jorge Neto Motorway, may feel they are seeing things. Brides, pregnant women, imaginary beings and even funeral corteges with figures with serious characteristics here present themselves, at their real size of even augmented, as real giants passing through that remote space within the sertão of Sergipe. It is there, in this rural section, between the cities of Nossa Senhora da Glória and Feira Nova, that artist Cícero Alves dos Santos, or Véio, creates and shows his work in wood, giving his versio for the history of the sertanejo people… Revista Lindenberg & Life, 40.
