Artist Paulo Monteiro and critic Thiago Mesquita shall today, as from 8 p.m. at the Estação Gallery (Rua Ferreira de Araújo, 625, Pinheiros, telephone 0xx11 3813-7253), hold a debate open to the public to discuss the works of Sergipan sculptor Cícero Alves dos Santos, better known as Véio. Up to 15 May, a set of his work shall be on show at the Gallery, with the curatorship of Paulo Monteiro. "In the debate, we shall discuss the possible relationship between popular and contemporary art”, says Monteiro. “Traditionally, popular art has been linked to modern art, and now I see that this relation is rarer”, the curator artist adds. Véio’s exhibition, with some 60 sculptures, is part of the programme that the Estação Gallery has been promoting since last year, with exhibitions by popular artists with the curatorship of contemporary artists or critics.
