11/05/2013 | Divirta-se | O Estado de São Paulo – 10 to 16 May 2013

Zé do Chalé. The exhibition has 25 works by the sergipano sculptor who died in 2008 and who would have been 110 years old in 2013. The wooden sculptures, which the artists has lovingly called his “trophies”, are mainly miniatures and fronts of churches, with symbols such as crosses, stars, birds and hearts. Zé do Chalé was a self-learner (he was a construction supervisor) and believed that his artistic talent had been sent by God – this is why religiousness is such an important characteristic of his work. Estação Art Gallery. Rua Ferreira de Araújo, 625, Pinheiros, telephone 0xx11 3813-7253, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (on Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; closed Sundays). Admittance free. Runs until 30 May.
