Exhibition by Júlio Martins da Silva, Published on 12 November 2012 by Ucha Meirelles. Tomorrow marks the start of the exhibition by Júlio Martins da Silva (1893-1978, Rio de Janeiro), an artist who has been almost forgotten but who is of significance for Brazilian popular art, at the Estação Art Gallery. He took part in the Biennial Exhibition of Venice in 1978. Artist Paulo Pasta is the curator of this exhibition, with 19 works from the collection of the Estação Art Gallery. The gift-wrapped world. Júlio Martins da Silva, a belated painter interested in nature and particularly in landscapes. His pictures, always depicting an organised scene, with light strokes of soothing and harmonious colours, are in counterposition to a life beset with difficulties. “This contrast between a life full of adversities and shortages and a production where this does not appear, or better, where the opposite of this condition is developed, as I have already tried to state, amounts to one of the main contradictions present in the work of Júlio Martins da Silva”, the curator says. Exhibition: JÚLIO MARTINS DA SILVA. Opening: 13 November at 7 p.m. (guests). Runs until 19 December 2012, from Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estação Art Gallery, Rua Ferreira de Araújo 625, Pinheiros SP, Telephone: 0xx11 3813-7253 Source:
